Highland Community College (located in Highland, Kansas) was founded in 1858 and is the first institution of higher learning in Kansas. It is now a public community college. The main campus and regional teaching sites are all in rural environments. The school has about 2,700 students, a student-faculty ratio of about 14:1, and offers more than 50 associate degree programs and 16 technical certificates. The school team "Scotties" participates in the NJCAA/Kansas Jayhawk Community College Alliance.
