Texas A&M University - Commerce is located in Commerce. It was founded in 1889 and is the third largest public university in the Texas A&M system. The main campus covers an area of about 140 acres, with a quiet campus environment, about an hour's drive from downtown Dallas. The school has colleges of liberal arts, business technology, education, science and agriculture, and offers more than 130 undergraduate and graduate courses, some of which are AACSB accredited. There are about 12,000 students in the school (8,100+ undergraduates and 3,900+ graduate students), and the student-teacher ratio is about 18:1. The school is famous for its small class teaching, internship opportunities, more than 8,000 acres of experimental farms, and active sports (NCAA Level 1 Southland League "Lions")
